30 Weeks!

Monday, February 26th, 2007

So I have reached 30 weeks! 3/4 there!!! The baby has been in roughly the same position for a week or so….I have been told they don’t do as many flips once they get this big. The baby’s head is down and his feet are up towards my right side. He is making his place known and kicks a lot and squirms. It is so neat to feel his little feet which he pushes out a lot and does all sorts of acrobatic moves with! I feel great still. I am finding it a little more difficult to sit up from a lying down position or even just to get up from sitting. I feel uncomfortable lying on my back (like I can’t breathe!) I had another appointment with Dr Buie and everything continues to look good. I gained another 3 lbs….not sure if I already posted that or not! don’t add it on twice!!! I have also started to bump my belly into things…I forget how wide I am and think I can fit through a spot that I can’t! Here is some generic information that I receive by email.

How your baby’s growing: Your baby’s a bit more than 15 1/2 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds. A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and fills out your uterus. Her eyes open and close, she’s able to distinguish between light and dark, and she can even follow a light source back and forth. Once she’s born, she’ll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she’ll respond to changes in light but will have a visual acuity of only 20/400 — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (”Normal” vision in adults is 20/20.)

How your life’s changing: You may be feeling a little tired these days, especially if you’re having any trouble sleeping. You might also feel clumsy, which is perfectly understandable. Not only are you heavier, your balance is off and your joints are loosened, thanks to pregnancy hormones. Those loose joints can actually cause your feet to grow a shoe size –permanently. Remember those mood swings you had earlier in pregnancy? The combination of uncomfortable symptoms and your hormones may result in a revisit of those ups and downs you felt in the first few months. It’s normal to worry about what your labor will be like or whether you’ll be a good parent, but if you can’t shake the blues or feel increasingly anxious or irritable, talk to your doctor or midwife. You may be among the 10 percent of expectant women who battle mild to moderate depression during their pregnancies.

Prenatal Classes

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Alex and I went to our first prenatal class last night. It was really neat to meet other couples that are experiencing the same thing we are. My belly is around the same size as the other ladies who are due around the same time as I am.  There are two others that are due right around us and are delivering at Royal Columbian, so we might become neighbours.  We also found a few couples that live really close to us.  We watched a video on the birthing process. Alex and I have seen it before but it was when I was only 7 weeks pregnant and so we kind of forgot about the content.  We discovered that the instructor is actually the mom of one of the guys that Alex and I went to highschool with, Jeff Battistel.
